The Vizient Clinical Workforce Conference provides a forum to connect clinical and operational leaders from a variety of health care organizations, disciplines, and roles to discuss relevant issues impacting the clinical workforce, share leading practices, and discuss the path forward for clinical teams as we stabilize, adapt and evolve into the future. Session topics include:

Christen Hunt serves as the Senior Director, Clinical Team Insights within Vizient. Clinical Team Insights is a data-driven program that partners with health care organizations to build clinical care teams of the future. In addition to these responsibilities, she partners with other areas within Vizient to provide expertise on advanced practice to improve overall care team optimization.

Christen came to Vizient from Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital in St. Petersburg, Florida. She served as Manager of Advanced Practice Providers for the Department of Pediatric Medicine and Joint Appointment with Johns Hopkins School of Nursing. This dual role included both administrative responsibilities while maintaining a clinical practice in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit. Her administrative duties included overseeing the Advanced Practice Providers within the Department of Pediatric Medicine, ensuring the top of scope of practice, and formulating the business case for expansion. She was also responsible for professional development, onboarding, and engagement of Advanced Practice Providers.

Evy Olson leads the Clinical Workforce Solutions programs at Vizient. This includes the Physician/APP Onboarding, Clinical Team Insights, and the Vizient/AACN Nurse Residency (NRP) Programs. These programs, together and individually, assist our members in the engagement and onboarding of clinicians and nurses as well as enhancing the optimization of the clinical care team. Prior to her current role, she was responsible for a portfolio of networks by setting strategy and being accountable for the activities, meetings, and resources that advance the success of the membership through discovery, knowledge sharing, learning, collaboration, and innovation with peers and other industry leaders.

Previously, Olson was Vice President of Clinical Effectiveness at Sanford Bismarck, an integrated healthcare system. She served as executive and operational lead for quality and resource improvement, infection control, case management, accreditation, and post-acute services. With over 30 years of experience in the health care industry, Olson has served as a nurse executive and a quality executive in her past roles. She is a trusted advisor to Vizient members, bringing her knowledge and expertise in addressing health system needs.

Olson received her Bachelor of Science degree in nursing from the University of North Dakota, and her MBA and MSN degrees from the University of Mary.

Jennifer Sarno is Programmatic Advisor, Director for Clinical Team Insights (formerly CAP2). She joined Vizient in 2016 as part of the Transforming Clinical Practice Initiative (TCPi) program, supporting clinicians and practices as they transitioned from volume-based care to value-based care. In May 2020, Jennifer transitioned to the role of Programmatic Advisor, Director where she uses data-driven, performance improvement strategies to optimize the clinical workforce. Jennifer’s experience as an Advanced Practice Provider (APP) lends itself to a holistic outlook on effective care teams and high-quality care delivery.

Prior to joining Vizient, Jennifer worked as an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner specializing in adult neurology. She served as Chair of the Advanced Practice Professionals Leadership Council and served on the Medical Executive Committee for a large community hospital in Georgia. Jennifer enjoyed precepting Nurse Practitioner students and participating in a mentorship program for registered nurses. Her experience in caring for patients with complex conditions and her passion to improve the patient and provider experience across the continuum of care led her to Vizient where she creates positive change for health care delivery on a much larger scale.

Jennifer received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from Georgia State University and a Master’s of Science in Nursing (MSN) from University of South Alabama. Jennifer currently resides in an Atlanta suburb with her husband and two sons.

Kelly Gallagher is the Director Nursing Programs at Vizient Inc. In this role, she has oversight of the operations and thought leadership of the Vizient/AACN Nurse Residency Program. Prior to this role, Ms. Gallagher was the Director of the Nurse Residency Program at Penn Medicine in Pennsylvania and New Jersey. In this role, Ms. Gallagher provided oversight and strategic leadership for over seven hundred newly licensed nurses hired across Penn Medicine at the health system level.

Ms. Gallagher received her BSN from Villanova University and MSN in Nursing and Healthcare Administration from the University of Pennsylvania. She holds a Certificate in Human Resource Management from the Wharton School and is Board Certified in Nursing Professional Development (NPD-BC) and Nurse Executive Advanced (NEA-BC). Ms. Gallagher has published and presented nationally on Nurse Residency Programs and evidence-based practice. She also serves as a team leader for Nurse Residency Programs for the Commission on College Nursing Education.

Angela Renkema is the Director of Programmatic Advisory Services for the Nurse Residency Program at Vizient. She leads a team in onboarding and supporting Nurse Residency Program members, as well as developing resources and curriculum for the Nurse Residency Program. Prior to joining, Vizient Angela was involved in a member organization’s Nurse Residency Program in various roles such as content expert, facilitator and coordinator. Angela is passionate about analyzing and using NRP data to help support the NRP coordinators and new graduate nurses.
